In the state of Jalisco in Central Mexico around oak woodland and grassy slopes you can find colonies of gray-green to sky blue solitary Agave guadalajarana. Like many species some populations are more attractive than others, also like many species some of the most attractive plants are found growing on private ranch land. Agave guadalajarana grows around 5000' and is often confused with Agave potatorum which can be found further South in Puebla & Oaxaca. The easiest way to tell them apart is by touching the backs of the leaves, A. guadalajarana has a scabrous, or sand papery feel, whilst A. potatorum leaves are smooth. Agave guadalajarana stays small to medium size 2'-3' across and 1-2' high and is hardy to 25-30 degrees F.
