Very Good with light soil and creasing to wraps, small chip to the rear wrap at the heel of the spine, contents clean and crisp. "Health Culture Co." stamped over the imprint. Stated 30th thousand, but a very rare survival. OCLC records 1 copy at the New York Historical Society Library. With a helpful double-sided "poise" card laid in, showing in/correct ladies' posture.

The photographs, captivating and copious, are attributed only to "Sarony," and the booklet was printed after Otto Sarony had sold the studio and trademark in 1898 (after his father's death in 1896). They may not have been taken by a Sarony, at all, though Otto had a marked interest in physical culture and the images capture an enigmatic combination of vulnerability and performativeness that characterized many of his portraits. An unsuspecting item full of immense beauty. Tugs at the heart, then makes you chuckle from the ads.
