You might be thinking, but the pattern calls for fingering so shouldn't I be using just Trio?? Yes, absolutely you can! We adore our Trio version in the color Madras (and countless others that the Kids have done!), and we've even gotten gauge with Trio DK, which would give you a denser fabric.

However, hear us out on going rouge with the yarn weight. The combos of Trio with Birdie or Mho Mho are just so gushy and wonderful that we think it's worth the extra step to swatch. Caitlin was able to get gauge with Trio and Birdie held together with a US 3 instead of the recommended US 5.

Birdie is known for its drape, this gorgeously soft baby suri alpaca yarn is blended with silk for strength. Birdie is the perfect alternative for those desiring a fluffy halo, but are allergic or sensitive to mohair. When held with another yarn, Birdie gives more opaque coverage than Mho Mho. Try it held single for a diaphanous effect, or doubled with itself, or another yarn, for more substance. To note: colors take slightly lighter to Birdie and its sisters, than to other bases.

Trio is our custom-milled trifecta of merino, cashmere, and nylon. Trio is both hard working and delightful. Its merino content provides beautiful texture and memory, the cashmere brings a sumptuous hand, and the hint of nylon takes dye vibrantly and gives added structure in draping and durability. Trio is perfect for wardrobe staples from sweaters to accessories. It’s particularly good for summer garments feeling cool against the skin. Colors sing on this base!

76% Super-fine Kid Mohair 24% Silk

Mho Mho is made with the softest super kid mohair we could find blended with a touch of silk. We’re in love with the way it takes the dye—it has some serious glow! Knit held with other yarns it provides a translucent wash of color and a gorgeous halo of fluff.
