Description:
The Minguet Quartet presents the second collection in the Mendelssohn: String Quartet series. Mendelssohn was a precocious genius, but his first string quartet was written in 1829. He was surprisingly late, at the age of 22. Of course, Mendelssohn also composed two string quartets in his teens, "E-flat major" and "A minor" (later to become No. 2), which are included in this album, but they were not given work numbers, and it was from No. 1 that Mendelssohn began to publish his works with confidence. The "Four Pieces," Op. 81, sometimes called the "Seventh String Quartet," is a work from Mendelssohn's later years. It is a collection of separately written works, including a highly accomplished fugue and variations. Naxos Japan
