Description:
In 2012, the most notable work at the Martina Franca Festival was this "Alta Serse" by Hasse (1699-1783). Mestaggio's libretto was very popular at the time, and it is known that many composers, including Gluck, Vinci, Graun, Galuppi, and J.C. Bach, as well as Hasse, added music to it. was performed by the best singers of the time (including the castrato), and the audience went wild for it. Hasse made two different revisions of this work, one in 1740 and the other in 1760, and it is interesting to note that this recording uses the 1730 Venice premiere version. Fagioli, the famous countertenor, sings impressively with a wide three-octave range, reminiscent of the legendary Farinelli.Originally an actor, Levia's contemporary direction is also noteworthy.
