This is a 12x12” oil painting on a gallery thick, 1.5” birch wood panel, depicting a scene from the Calgary restaurant Major Tom of a indulged upon spread of salad, oysters, an espresso martini and vibrant red, spilled seafood sauce on a stone table top.
Many of our biggest achievements and celebrations are memorialized with food. We await the big day, the date, the gathering, do our best not to spoil our appetite and then all too soon the special meal is in the past. Oftentimes we capture our meal pre-consumption, displayed in its grandeur and perfection, however I like to linger inside the moment, savour the scene and memorialize the authentic enjoyment by way of the disarray: scattered cutlery, mood lighting glimmers, indulgent, tucked-into dishes and spilled sauces.
A signature look of my work is how the painting wraps around the edges of the panel by a 1/2”, the remaining depth was left the blonde birch wood. The entire piece, painted edges included, is coated in a satin varnish.

The painting comes with a signed and dated certificate of authenticity.
The reference photo for the scene was provided by a friend of the artist, Dianna Hann.
