This is a collection of works by Věra Janářčková (1941-), a female composer from Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia). Deeply inspired by the landscape of the Tatra Mountains, she formed an inner relationship with nature. After studying at the Conservatory in Bratislava and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, she fled to Canada and Germany for political reasons. After settling in a village in Germany, she listened to the voices of the forest in silence and seclusion, translating the sounds of nature into her musical language in her own compositional style. She has composed for a wide range of genres and instruments, from large-scale orchestral works to vocal music, arrangements of folk songs, and radio plays, but her main creative instrument is the string instrument, and her nine string quartets are among her most important works. In addition to works for strings, this album includes a piano concerto performed by Ivan Buffa and Jonathan Nott & the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. Tokyo M-Plus
