Description:
Jaime Martin, who became Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Yevre Symphony Orchestra in 2013, and the Yevre Symphony Orchestra present the second volume of their Brahms series with the Erik Erikson Chamber Choir, one of the "finest choral ensembles in the world". Four of Brahms's masterpieces, "Ode to Fate," based on a poem by Helderlin, "Ode to the Fateful Goddess," based on Goethe's play, "Lamentations," which depicts the transience of the beautiful and perfect, and "Burial Song," which is so austere that it makes you want to straighten your posture, are truly Brahms's masterpieces, and the performance here is just as Brahms intended. The performance here is also excellent, as Brahms would have wanted it to be. The second half, "Love Songs," is a lighter, more relaxed work that offers a softer Brahms. Naxos Japan
