This is the second release by Norwegian countertenor Daniel Sater, who released "Unexpected Songs" (LWC1204), a contemporary Norwegian work sung with baroque instruments. The main program, Knut Voge's "Winter Songs," is a large work in 31 parts, freely compiled and texted from the poems of the Norwegian poet Hanne Bramnes (b.1959) in his collection "Winter Songs - The December Book. The works after Voge's "Original Light," composed on poems of unknown authorship, are works with chamber instruments. Hermann Vogt's "Laudato Si," based on St. Francis of Assisi's "Ode to the Living. Shel Mørk Karlsen's "The Unrest of the Earth is Over" is a six-part work based on poems by Swedish poets Juhan Aarof Wallin, Elis Erlandsson, Boo Setterlind, Per Lagerqvist, Erik Juhan Stagnerius, and Vernell von Heydenstam. The six pieces are based on the poems of Vernel von Heydenstam (Sacred Meditations). The text of "Sacred Meditations" is from the New Testament book of Philippians (chapter 2, verses 5-11). Daniel Sater studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Birmingham and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and has appeared as a soloist and ensemble singer in Norwegian and international concerts with repertoire ranging from ancient to contemporary music.
