Stockhausen (1928-2007)
Description:
Historic first recording of early piano works by the contemporary German composer Stockhausen. It is performed by David Tudor, a pianist in whom Stockhausen had complete confidence. In his early years, Stockhausen adopted a neoclassical style, but after hearing Messiaen's works at the "Darmstadt Summer School of Contemporary Music," he was awakened to Serie Rhythm (a strict twelve-tone technique that was further developed). In "Klavierstuck" recorded on this album, pieces I-IV are his first piano pieces, and they contain quite experimental elements. In V-X, which he began the following year, he explored new notation and even more complex writing techniques. Naxos Japan
