This captivating abstract expressionist studio art glass sculpture features a striking, biomorphic form reminiscent of a stylized, mythical dragon creature. Strongly influenced by classic Italian Murano design, the piece is hot-sculpted by hand from a single, solid mass of molten glass using the masterly massello technique. It beautifully showcases the traditional sommerso method, where vibrant, controlled inclusions of twisted cobalt blue, amber, and rich red glass ribbons are artfully submerged within the thick, clear outer gather. The heavily dimpled exterior texture beautifully facets incoming light to mimic organic scales, while the dramatic, reaching appendages and sweeping blue crest lend a dynamic sense of motion.
