Kenny G
Description:
International jazz icon Kenny G releases his first new studio album in six years, "New Standers," inspired by the jazz ballads of the 50s and 60s! The new album consists of original compositions inspired by the jazz ballads of the 50s and 60s. Kenny self-produced this album, and showcases his trademark soprano saxophone on about half of the songs on the album, and tenor and alto saxophones on the other half. On "Legacy," the fifth track on the album, Kenny has taken a famous tenor saxophone phrase by Stan Getz, a saxophonist he admires, and added his own melody and Waldman's original melody to it. Co-writers on the album include Randy Waldman, a Grammy Award-winning artist who has worked with Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Ray Charles, and Kenny G, who has collaborated with Waldman for many years since the release of his Grammy Award-winning masterpiece "Breathless" in 1992. Walter Afanasyev is also credited on this album. And pianist Sam Hirsch, who also participated in the previous album "Brazilian Nights," is involved in this album as a co-composer. "For this album, I wanted to recreate the 'sound' as I wanted it, but I wanted to do it my way, so I had to compose the music myself. So I decided to compose and perform songs that captured the "heart and soul" of beloved jazz standards and record them "my way." It was a wonderful (and painstaking) labor of love, and I am very proud of the result," commented Kenny G. about the new album.
