Description:

The complete religious works of Johann Kuhnau, a composer active in Leipzig during the German Baroque period. This sixth collection contains five works, including two major works from his later period, "Your Heaven" and "Lord, Your Heaven," "Jesus the Merciful," for chamber ensemble and soprano solo voice, which was first performed in 1690, "Praise Him," from the same period, and "When He Speaks to Me," composed in the middle of those works. The early works are in the Italianate style popular at the time, while the later works use large-scale orchestration and are truly grandiose, worthy of Thomas Cantor's status. The series is led by Ospella Musica, founded in 2011 by conductor Gregor Mayer, who delivers limpid singing on all the albums.
