Gonna Take A Miracle" (released in 1971) is her fifth album, which surprised fans and others by using cover songs for all the songs. Many of the songs on this album are R&B and soul standards, and her respect for black music is evident. Her collaboration with Patti LaBelle's black female chorus group, LaBelle, was also a big hit. Produced by Leon Huff & Kenny Gamble, the recording was done at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. Smile" (released in 1976) is an album filled with the jazz flavor of her roots. With Charlie Calello again as co-producer, she worked with John Tropay, Richard Daves, and other top New York musicians to create a crossover sound that spanned soul and jazz. Nested" (released in 1978) is a black image of urban loneliness in New York City, and then moves to a smiling Laura in the bright sunlight. Here is Laura singing of the joy of love in nature, using sunlight, the moon, and stars as motifs. John Sebastian and Felix Cavalier participate in this project.The light-hearted vocals never heard before can be heard throughout the album. Included on the CD reissue of "Rarities & Live Recordings" are a mono version, a demo recording, and a live recording, all of which were included as bonus tracks. Each of the recordings is being released for the first time on analog vinyl.
