12 Enchanting Boleros by Cecilia Duarte Mexican mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte is a versatile singer with a repertoire ranging from ancient to contemporary works. A versatile singer with a wide repertoire ranging from ancient to contemporary works, she was acclaimed for her role as Renata in Martinez's opera "Cruzar la cara de la luna" at the Houston Grand Opera in 2010. This is Cecilia Duarte's first solo album, created by renowned producer Blanton Alspaugh, a multiple Grammy Award winner. It features a collection of classic Mexican and Cuban boleros. Boleros are dances that originated in various parts of Spain, later spreading to Cuba, and later became popular as romantic songs in Spanish-speaking countries, especially Mexico, in the 1930s and 1940s. Included here are "Alfonsina and the Sea" and "Thank You for Life," which were made famous by the Argentinean folklore singer Mercedes Sosa. Cecilia Duarte sings various boleros with great emotion. Cecilia has this to say about these works. Many of the songs in this collection are ones I have heard my mother sing, and along with my childhood memories, they also represent who I am as an artist today.So, with the album title 'Reencuentros,' we want to share the beautiful music with our listeners and give them a taste of the artistic richness of Latin American music, if only a little bit.
