Description:
Charity Concert by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami ReliefCDOn April 3, 2011, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra held a charity concert for Japan earthquake and tsunami relief at the Spain Hall in Prague Castle. On March 11, the day of the earthquake, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra was in Japan for a tour and witnessed the devastation of the earthquake in Japan. After a few performances, the orchestra had to return to the Czech Republic in a hurry, but the strong will of the orchestra to do something to help Japan led them to hold this charity concert. Sponsored by the Czech Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Japan in the Czech Republic, the concert was broadcast live on TV and radio, and during the broadcast, viewers called in and collected donations for the Japan earthquake and tsunami via the Internet. The program included a live recording of the Czech Philharmonic's classic, Dvořák's 9th "From the New World" and an encore performance of Sibelius. A portion of the proceeds from this album will be donated through the Japanese Red Cross Society for the earthquake relief efforts. Octavia Records
