Description:
[Mahler's symphony "Resurrection" has a philosophical content that pursues the meaning of life, with its theme of the death and resurrection of a hero and its inherent polar emotions of fear and sweetness, shudder and graceful longing. The final movement depicts the final judgment and resurrection. The performance, recorded by Scholte with the London Symphony Orchestra following the First Symphony, is driven by the conductor's strong, masculine thrust, and leaves the listener with an overwhelming impression. Recorded May 21-26, 1966 at Kingsway Hall, London [Performed by] Heather Harper (soprano), Helen Watts (alto), London Symphony Chorus, London Symphony Orchestra, Conductor: Sir Georg Solti
