Description:
[Schubert is one of Brendel's core repertoire. The two "Improvisations" have already been re-recorded by Philips, but this is a performance from the 1970s, when Brendel recorded all of his solo piano music except for his early works. This performance, which combines outward expansiveness and openness with fragrant songs and deep lyricism, was highly acclaimed as a performance that established a new image of Schubert that transcended the Viennese style. This is the most standard performance of both pieces. Rubidium clock cutting. Recorded in London, February 1972 and June 1974.
