First Edition. Pebbled cloth 16mo; vii, (2), 10-64, (12)pp. 6 leaves at rear with 17 mounted samples and a stub of the eighteenth (sky blue) in wool and silk. In Good condition with foxing primarily to endpapers and sample leaves, small stain on the rear board. Offsetting from samples; several cloth samples have small moth bites and are folded toward the gutters, one pink sample clipped. A rare work produced during the rise of home dyeing by Solomon Kuder, a weaver in Trexlertown, PA, whose coverlets are included in several museum collections. A translation of the text by Dr. Edwin Fogel was printed in The Pennsylvania German Folklore Society, Vol. 13 (1948). Kuder's weaving was featured in The Museum Year: Annual Report of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Vol. 109 (1984-85), pp. 40-41, which notes, "Patrons would often supply the weavers with home-dyed yarns used in creating the boldly designed coverlets."
