After a 20-year gap, Glyndebourne welcomes back "Tito" with strength and beauty, directed by Klaus Guth. With a well-proportioned and beautiful voice, Richard Kraft plays the title role, and Anna Stephanie sings Sesto's anxieties and regrets with flawless singing. Stage manager Guth has taken the story of first-century Rome and set it in the unexpected setting of a modern-day office upstairs and a meadow downstairs, and combined it with Olaf Vinter's exquisite lighting and projections to create a convincing stage. Robin Ticchiati's baton spun richly detailed, shadowy, and substantial music from Mozart's last score by the Age of Enlightenment Orchestra.
