It’s rated a Class 3 climb and the round-trip distance along the standard Keyhole Route, is 14.5 miles. As the highest peak in Rocky Mountain National Park and the northernmost 14er in Colorado, Longs Peak (elevation 14,255 ft) was named in honor of Major Stephen Harriman Long, an American army officer and explorer who first climbed it in 1820.
