Description:

Daniel Reuss & 18th Century Orchestra! New recording of Brahms' German Requiem! The 18th Century Orchestra, a pioneer of period orchestras, has entered the "Post-Brüchen Era" and is on a journey of musical creation. Daniel Reuss, a master of the Dutch classical music world, has been the batonwright of the 18th century orchestra with his previous work, Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis" (PGCD 921124/GCD 921124). The second Glossa recording from the post-Brüchen era is a recording of Brahms' great religious work, the German Requiem! Daniel Reuss, who has demonstrated his outstanding skills in the ancient music and choral scenes, and Capella Amsterdam, one of the world's leading choral ensembles, of which he is the artistic director, will perform Brahms' "German Requiem" in this second recording. The soloists are Carolyn Sampson, the best of the ancient music sopranos, and André Morsch, a German baritone who studied in Amsterdam and The Hague, and was a member of William Christie's Le Jardin des Voix. With the sound of the 18th century orchestra established by Bruchen and the pure harmonies of Capella Amsterdam, this performance attempts to be as close as possible to Brahms' original intentions in terms of tone, interpretation, and tempo.
