The practice that had been seen in the malt whisky world for ages, but was little utilized in American whiskey, which has ever been focused on the signature character of solely new oak. Named for the “angel’s share,” this golden amber spirit is finished in Port barrels after the initial aging in new oak, for juicy red-fruit notes that slide into the long finish. Look for orange peel, vanilla and roasted nut flavors, too. Bottled at 43.3% abv.
