A fibula is an ancient fastener, first developed in the Bronze Age, used mostly to fasten clothing or cloaks. Though the name ‘fibula’ originally was used only for pins of Roman origin, it has come to be used for any ancient fastener with an elongated body and a hinge or spring attaching the pin. This is, in fact, the ancient predecessor of the modern safety pin.
This one has a kraftig profilierte, or high profile and has a high arch, a head that widens into a triangle shape and one bulge on the bow.
This fibula is hand cast bronze and is 2 inches long.
The medium brooches are best for medium- to heavy-weight knits and weaves as well as bulkier silk scarves. They can be used both functionally and purely as decoration - remember, hats are making a comeback!
