A beautifully preserved mid-century Japanese celluloid figurine, dating from the 1930s–50s and exquisitely hand-painted. This light, translucent early-plastic figure depicts a poised musician holding a guitar, her features delicately moulded and her dress rendered in soft coral tones characteristic of Japan’s early export novelties.

Celluloid figures of this era were produced in a wide variety of forms, yet musician figures representing diverse heritage were manufactured only in very small numbers, making this an unusually rare and desirable example. The piece reflects both the craftsmanship and the global outlook of Japan’s pre- and post-war cottage industries, created for Western export markets and now increasingly sought after by collectors.
