These early Georgian Democratic Republic stamps feature the national emblem of St. George slaying the dragon, set within a bold geometric frame. Printed in Tbilisi between 1919 and 1921 on coarse, unwatermarked paper, they represent some of the first independent issues following Georgia’s brief separation from Russia.
The 50 kopeck (green) and 60 kopeck (red) denominations were part of a wider series, with designs influenced by medieval Georgian art. These imperforate stamps were often crudely printed, giving rise to many shades, varieties, and forgeries. Genuine examples are sought after for their historical connection to Georgia’s short-lived independence before Soviet occupation in 1921.
