Long time no see, old friend. The Bulgarian Great Coat is back! And ...older?

Inspired by the nice coats Bulgaria's mates over in the the Soviet Union had, these have an offset hook & eyelet closure, long length, big collar and pleated back with buttoned fastener. Like our usual batch of charcoal coloured Bulgarian overcoats, these were issued during the Cold War era, extending down past the knees in a warming wool blend. 

Before you lay eyes on how nice of a coat these are, the first thing you will notice is probably the intense insect repellent odour. While this may be unpleasant, it likely has saved the fabric from being eaten and I'm sure biosecurity likes it too.

In traditional surplus fashion, not all of these are the same! All have eyelet closure but some have decorative central buttons (which could be removed if you prefer). Most have red piping details though some have cream and others fabulous magenta. Given the age of these (some nearly 74 years), storage damage, rough frayed hems, stains and repairs are common. 

These coats are great for anyone collecting Cold War era items, looking for something similar to the Soviet M41 coat, or have a dreary yearning to stare at brutalist architecture in the winter.
