This ½ cent commemorative stamp from Dominica, issued in 1973, honors the 25th Anniversary of the World Health Organization (1948–1973). The design titled “Going to the Hospital” depicts a vibrant rural scene where villagers carry a patient in a makeshift stretcher, symbolizing community care and the global effort to bring medical aid to remote regions. At the left appears the magenta WHO emblem—the Rod of Asclepius over a world map—set against a pale blue background. The stamp also bears the Queen Elizabeth II royal cypher (E II R), marking Dominica’s status as a Commonwealth realm at the time.
A touching tribute to humanitarian cooperation, this issue reflects the WHO’s mission to promote health and access to medical services worldwide.
