The Ring of Fortune bandana is inspired by popular Halloween games from the 1880s through the 1930s. Before trick-or-treating became common, Halloween was celebrated with seasonal food, drinks, and games. Many of these party games attempted to predict the future, especially if a young man or woman was to marry soon. Some of these games included reading, tea leaves and selecting apples where the color of the skin could determine luck, wealth, and happiness.
