Intention: Face and body lotion for all skin types

Tulsi is also known as Holy Basil, and is considered a sacred plant in Ayurvedic medicine.   Tulsi is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, adaptogenic, and antibacterial. The benefits of Tulsi can be accessed topically or internally as a tea.  For the skin, Tulsi can help conditions such as acne, dark spots, uneven texture and/or color, and lackluster skin tone due to aging.  

We paired Tulsi with Aloe for this lotion, and they are a powerhouse of goodness together!  This lotion smells amazing, and is light and hydrating. And since it is summertime, we added a bit of non-nano Zinc Oxide for sun protection.

Ingredients:  Aloe Vera, Olive Oil, Tusi (Holy Basil), Vegetable Emulsifying Wax, Borax, Alcohol, Zinc Oxide (non-nano), GeoGard ECT (preservative), Xantham Gum, Water, Citric Acid, Essential Oils (Bail, Helichrysum, Chamomile, Bergamot)

Why We Chose These Ingredients:

• Olive Oil - anti-oxidants, oleic acids and polyphenols (antioxidant) 
• Aloe Vera - Hydrating and healing
• Tulsi / Holy Basil - soothing, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, healing, high in Vitamin C, healing
• Vegetable Emulsifying Wax - a plant-based fatty alcohol that helps to bind oils and water together.  Safe for cosmetic use, easily absorbed and adds a velvety texture.
• Borax - a naturally occurring mineral that dissolves into water to make a basic solution (lowers pH, which helps to preserve). When used with wax, the salt will help emulsify (bind) oils and water. It also has mild antibacterial and antifungal properties. We use less than 5% in our formulas.
• Xantham Gum -  a polysaccharide (a sugar-based polymer) made from when sugars are fermented from Xanthomonas campestri bacteria.  It is very safe and helps to stabilize emulsions, thicken product and create a smooth texture.
• Zinc Oxide - mineral that sits on top of your skin as a physical barrier for sun protection. We use non-nano sized zinc oxide to keep it on top of skin, instead of penetrating the skin (considered better and safer). Also soothes skin irritations.

• Alcohol - used for Alcohol Intermediary step, which helps to open up the herb when infused in oil: it a stronger extraction. The alcohol is later evaporated out during heating phases.
• Geogard ECT - a natural preservative used in personal care products. This antimicrobial blend offers protection against Gram positive and negative bacteria, yeast and molds. It is comprised of (4) ingredients: Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin, and Sorbic Acid.
• Citric Acid -  Used to balance the pH of the lotion, may or may not be included

• Basil Essential Oil -  warming, energizing, analgesic, spicy

• Helichrysum Essential Oil - restorative, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial

• Chamomile Essential Oil - anti-inflammatory, fights infection, calms dry, irritated or flaky skin conditions, promotes healing

• Bergamot Essential Oil -  anti-microbial, promotes skin cell renewal, helps to even and tone complexion pigments, acne fighter
