Product Description: This strand features exquisite Millefiori beads, renowned for their intricate designs and vibrant colors.
Era: Late 1800s to early 1900s
Origin: Venice
Technique: Mosaic application or Mosaic inlay beads
In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachasow." The term "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. After the collapse of exclusive trade with the Orient and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venice faced significant economic challenges. In response, Venetian artisans created Millefiori glass, characterized by its colorful and decorative patterns. Merchants, already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical glass beads from Millefiori glass and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
