Dzi beads are ancient beads originating from Tibet. Similar to etched Carnelian, these are designed by baking natural dyes onto agate. They are believed to have been made around the 1st to 6th centuries AD. Despite their age, the components of the dyes used are still not fully understood, making these beads quite mysterious. Mostly discovered in Tibet, they are also found in Bhutan and regions like Ladakh in the Himalayas. Each pattern holds different meanings, with the round "eye" pattern being particularly popular. In Tibet, they are cherished as "talismans of wealth and prosperity," passed down through generations as prized adornments. Recently, they have gained popularity in China under the name "Tian Zhu," with many replicas made using similar techniques. However, ancient Dzi beads remain rare and highly valuable.
