This is a beautiful Faceted Blue Kyanite specimen from India set into a .925 sterling silver wrapped ring mount. Available in an oval cut (depending on availability).
Blue Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral (Al₂SiO₅) known for its striking blue color and strong pleochroism, displaying different shades depending on the angle of light. It has an unusual Mohs hardness of 4.5-5 parallel to its crystal structure and 6.5-7 across it, making it challenging to cut. Found primarily in metamorphic rocks, major sources include Brazil, Nepal, India, and the United States. Blue kyanite forms in long, bladed crystals and is commonly used in jewelry, often as cabochons or raw specimens due to its perfect cleavage and brittleness. It requires careful handling but is valued for its deep color and unique crystal structure.
